Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive epidermal resurfacing procedure used to treat uneven skin tone/texture, photoaging, striae, melasma, and scars, including acne scars.
BEFORE
- Avoid direct UV sunlight or exposure for 5-7 days before treatment
- Schedule any other facial treatments 2-3 weeks before service
- Discontinue use of any exfoliating cleansers or scrubs 3-5 days before treatment
- Arrive on time and with a clean face to your appointment.
DURING
During a microdermabrasion treatment, your provider will use a minimally abrasive instrument to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker outer layer of skin that is uneven. This creates a smoother texture and appearance of the skin.
AFTER
- Some redness and flaking/ peeling of the treated areas is common.
- Keep the new skin clean and moisturized, it will help the skin heal properly and reduce the irritation that may come with the healing process.
- Anti-inflammatory creams and/or cold compresses may be used as needed. Avoid scratching and or picking at the treated areas as this can delay healing and cause hyperpigmentation.
- It is important to avoid irritating the treated skin for one week with harsh chemicals, rubbing or tanning.
- Sun damage reverses the effects of microdermabrasion, so wearing spf 30+ daily will help maintain your investment.
