Male Tummy Tuck

What is a Male Tummy Tuck?

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) surgery is not just for women; males can also benefit greatly from this procedure. A tummy tuck is a surgical body contouring procedure to reshape the abdominal area for an overall slimmer appearance.

At Modern Surgical Arts, we offer several different types of tummy tuck techniques to address each of our patient’s individual aesthetic goals.

Traditional Tummy Tuck

A traditional or classic tummy tuck addresses the full length of the abdomen. An incision is created in the lower abdomen, through which abdominal muscles are tightened and excess skin removed. In some cases, a second incision may also be created around the belly button.

Mini Tummy Tuck

A mini tummy tuck involves creating a single incision on the lower abdomen, through which loose muscles are tightened and excess skin is removed. This procedure is ideal for men with a mild amount of skin laxity or lower belly pooch, as it does not address the area of the abdomen above the belly button.

Extended Tummy Tuck

Men who have experienced significant weight loss and are struggling with excess, sagging abdominal skin can often benefit from an extended tummy tuck. This technique creates a longer incision, and excess skin is removed from the upper and lower abdomen.

Circumferential Tummy Tuck

A circumferential tummy tuck is a body lift procedure that may also be beneficial for men who have lost a significant amount of weight. This procedure removes excess lax skin and tissue from the abdomen, waist, lower back, and buttocks.

Candidates for Male Tummy Tuck

Men who are bothered by lax skin around the belly or a protruding abdomen may be able to benefit from this procedure. Ideal candidates will be healthy non-smokers with realistic expectations regarding what this procedure can accomplish. Please schedule a consultation to learn more about a male tummy tuck and if this procedure is right for you.

The Male Tummy Tuck Procedure

The male tummy tuck procedure can be performed using either general or twilight with local anesthesia and generally takes 2-4 hours to complete. The number of incisions required during surgery will depend on the specific tummy tuck technique being performed. Most tummy tucks will involve repositioning the naval. Excess skin will be repositioned and trimmed away. Incisions are closed with surgical sutures.

Male Tummy Tuck Results and Recovery

Male tummy tuck surgery is often performed on an outpatient basis so patients can return home to heal. Mild soreness and discomfort are to be expected, which can be controlled with over-the-counter or prescription pain medication. A surgical drain may be placed to collect any excess fluid or blood during recovery.

Most patients can return to work within 2-4 weeks, depending on the type of job. We encourage patients to get up and walk around the house to maintain healthy circulation; however, strenuous exercise will need to be avoided for 6-8 weeks. Our team will provide you with specific aftercare instructions regarding how to properly care for your surgical site for optimal results.
