What is a Breast Augmentation?

Breast implants allow women to customize and achieve their ideal breasts. However, not all implants are created equal. Different types of implants offer unique advantages and can meet the goals of various patients who want to improve the appearance of their breasts.

The primary goal of breast augmentation is to help women improve breast aesthetics while making the results look completely natural. At Modern Surgical Arts of Denver, we offer implants that promote the most natural-looking results and help you choose the right option for you.

Candidates for Breast Augmentation

If you are unhappy with the current appearance, size, shape, or proportions of your natural breasts and want to feel more confident in your appearance, you may be a good candidate for breast augmentation with breast implants. The best candidates for this procedure should be in good health and not currently pregnant or breastfeeding. Candidates must not be smokers, vaping,  or regularly consume excess alcohol. Patients choosing implants must be 22 years old. It’s also important that the breasts are fully developed before the procedure and that patients commit to the recovery process and prioritize rest after the procedure is over to ensure the best results.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to breast augmentation, which is why your consultation is critical to determining your procedure eligibility and designing your surgical treatment plan with the exact implant to help you achieve your ideal breasts.

Breast augmentation with implants, enable the patient to either rejuvenate their breast, shape, post pregnancy, or enhance what they never developed in order to feel comfortable in their body

Breast implants, though, do not change anatomical positions of the breast, and have limitations in lifting depressed itself. That’s only augmenting the volume of the breast. Does any asymmetries may still pretty present after the procedure with a breast implant alone.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

During your breast augmentation, you will be given general anesthesia to reduce any possible discomfort during the procedure. After it has become effective, your doctor will cleanse the treatment area and make the predetermined incision before inserting your breast implants over or under the chest muscles.

One of the benefits of breast augmentation with breast implants is that you can customize your procedure by choosing the best implants to help you achieve your desired look. We offer two primary types of implants, each with many advantages.

At  modern surgical arts of Denver we prefer to place the implant partially under the muscle, in order to achieve longevity and a more natural result. This is sometimes called a dual plain breast implant placement.

Allergan Gummy Bear Implants

The Allergan Gummy Bear implants are made of a silicone gel formula and are known for being long-lasting and resistant to rupture. They can customize your procedure and come in different sizes, including maximum, enhanced, moderate, and minimal.

You’ll have the option of five different breast profiles, ranging from low to extra full and everything in between. These silicone breast implants each have a different level of gumminess to meet the needs of various patients.

These cohesive implants tend to be safer and designed as the silicone does not leak too much beyond the shell itself if there is a potential failure of the device in the future.

Mentor BOOST Implants

Mentor BOOST implants are stable gel implants that deliver a natural look and feel and promote shape retention over time. You can choose different Mentor BOOST projections and fullness, including moderate plus and high profiles.

The boost implants also tend to be safer in design, compared to traditional silicone implants, as the gel maintains its shape, and stays close to the surface of the implant, if there is a leak in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will breast augmentation increase my risk of breast cancer?

Breast implants do not increase your risk of breast cancer. However, the FDA has identified a possible link between breast implants and an exceedingly rare type of cancer of the immune system related to textured implants called Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL ). This is a type of cancer that relates to the lining or capsule in contact with the textured surface of the breast implant and is not necessarily related to breast tissue. This is one of the reasons why, at Modern Surgical Arts, we do not offer textured implants to our patients, and all of our implant surfaces are smooth, substantially reducing the risk of this type of cancer. n Our team will help you thoroughly understand the risks during a consultation.

Should I wait until I am done having children to have augmentation?

You can still have children after breast augmentation, but it’s recommended that you be finished before undergoing surgery. Additional pregnancies can impact your results, requiring you to have additional procedures to maintain them.

Does breast augmentation lift the breasts?

A breast augmentation does not lift the breasts directly—it simply enhances their volume. We recommend adding a breast lift if you’re concerned about sagging or drooping breast tissue. nIt’s important to have your anatomy evaluated by our double-board-certified cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Dastoury, to ensure your aesthetic concerns are being heard and your anatomy is properly diagnosed before a surgical procedure is recommended.

Will my nipple sensation or feeling change?

Changes in nipple sensation are at risk with breast augmentation but depend on. Certain incision patterns can increase this risk. For most patients, however, any change in nipple sensation is temporary and returns within several months.

When can I return to work?

Most patients return to work within 2-3 weeks of surgery and return to normal function at 50% of their normal routine, depending on their job. Patients who can work from home and on their computers can routinely return to work in 1 week. nIf you work a physical job, this may be longer. Our team will give you a more detailed estimate based on your job responsibilities.

Can I breastfeed after augmentation?

Breast implants do not impact your ability to breastfeed if you choose to have your incision below the breast crease. However, changes in nipple sensitivity can make it difficult. Opting for different incision patterns can partially avoid this. Make sure to speak with our team about your concerns during your consultation.

Will breast implants give me cleavage?

Breast implants -only enhance the volume of the breasts and thus add to the cleavage that you already have. You may be able to create more noticeable cleavage by wearing certain bras after breast augmentation, however.
